什么是多色性？
简单来说，多色性 (Pleochroic) 是为 Alexandrite 服务而成立的一个组织。后者是一个 LLM Harness 框架，前者为其提供可选的账号服务、多平台协议通信渠道，以及模型服务和搜索服务。
多色性指晶体因光的偏振方向不同而呈现不同颜色的现象。亚历山大变石具有明显的多色性，也以另一种光学现象闻名：在日光下偏绿，在烛光下偏红。
开源与自部署
Alexandrite 是一个分布性框架，在 CLI、移动端、桌面端都有对应的客户端。Pleochroic Gateway 的一个核心功能就是为其建立了一个多端通用的远程控制平台。通过 Pleochroic 账号，就可以在手机上远程控制多个桌面 / CLI 客户端。
Pleochroic Gateway 还能够记住 Alexandrite 客户端的配置。在初始化 Alexandrite 官方客户端的时候，登录多色性账号就可以将自己的 Agent 配置、供应商配置、Skill 上传到云端。在其他端重新初始化的时候，一次登录就可以把所有重要信息重新还原到本地。
Pleochroic Gateway 也为 Alexandrite 提供多色性托管的网页搜索及 Headless 浏览器服务。
除了通过 Pleochroic Gateway 来使用这些，我们也提供可供您自己部署的 Pleochroic 服务端，通过一键配置即可在本地使用，功能和代码上与 Pleochroic Gateway 完全一致。不注册 Pleochroic Gateway 账号，您仍可完整使用 Alexandrite 的全部功能。
托管模型服务

模型研究
除了提供服务，多色性也在探索大语言模型的记忆机制。目前，我们正在进行仿生记忆方向的研究，希望大语言模型不仅能够保存信息，也能够在交互中形成关联、巩固记忆，并逐渐忘却。研究结果将很快被公布，在发表论文的同时，多色性也希望它能够帮助您的 Harness 更好地回想。
宣言
多色性希望通过自己的开源贡献，给社区提供一个更好的、稳定的 Harness。Alexandrite 自身是开源的、可被第三方自由使用的运行时框架，而多色性希望 Alexandrite 在开放的同时不失便捷性，也能提供大多数私有厂商所提供的、有意思的、方便的功能。
多色性希望能积极参与到开放权重模型的研究中。不论是形而上的研究、还是架构与训练上的研究，多色性都希望能够发挥自己的作用。
目前大语言模型尚未被人类社会所完全接纳和认识。多色性希望，人类对待未知的事物能多一丝耐心与同情。
多色性认为所有人类，不论民族、出身或国界，都有使用大语言模型的权利。
What is Pleochroic?
Simply put, Pleochroic is an organisation founded to serve Alexandrite. Alexandrite is an LLM harness framework, and Pleochroic provides it with optional account services, multi-platform protocol communication channels, as well as model and search services.
Pleochroism is the phenomenon in which a crystal shows different colours depending on the polarisation direction of light. Alexandrite is markedly pleochroic, and is also known for another optical phenomenon: it looks greenish in daylight and reddish by candlelight.
Open source and self-hosting
Alexandrite is a distributed framework, with clients for the CLI, mobile and desktop. One of the core features of Pleochroic Gateway is a remote control platform shared across all of these clients. With a Pleochroic account, you can remotely control multiple desktop and CLI clients from your phone.
Pleochroic Gateway can also remember the configuration of your Alexandrite clients. When you initialise an official Alexandrite client, signing in to your Pleochroic account uploads your agent configuration, provider configuration and skills to the cloud. When you initialise a client again on another device, a single sign-in restores all of that important information locally.
Pleochroic Gateway also provides Alexandrite with Pleochroic-hosted web search and headless browser services.
Besides using these through Pleochroic Gateway, you can also deploy the Pleochroic server yourself. With one-click configuration it runs locally, and it is identical to Pleochroic Gateway in both features and code. Even without registering a Pleochroic Gateway account, you can still use every feature of Alexandrite.
Hosted model service
In addition to the quality-of-life (QoL) services described above, Pleochroic Gateway also offers users an inexpensive large language model relay. The keys provided by Pleochroic are not limited to Alexandrite — you can also use them in your favourite applications and harnesses.
At present we offer only a free plan; paid plans will be introduced as circumstances allow. The models included in the free plan can be viewed after signing in.
Model research
Beyond providing services, Pleochroic is also exploring the memory mechanisms of large language models. We are currently researching biomimetic memory, in the hope that large language models can not only store information, but also form associations, consolidate memories and gradually forget as they interact. The results will be published soon. Alongside the paper, Pleochroic hopes the work will help your harness recall better.
Manifesto
Through its open-source contributions, Pleochroic hopes to give the community a better and more stable harness. Alexandrite itself is an open-source runtime framework that third parties can use freely, and Pleochroic hopes that Alexandrite can stay open without sacrificing convenience, while also offering the interesting and convenient features that most proprietary vendors provide.
Pleochroic hopes to take an active part in research on open-weight models. Whether the research is metaphysical, or concerns architecture and training, Pleochroic hopes to play its part.
Large language models have not yet been fully accepted or understood by human society. Pleochroic hopes that humanity can meet the unknown with a little more patience and compassion.
Pleochroic believes that all people, regardless of ethnicity, background or nationality, have the right to use large language models.
